How Does the Foundation Invest in Educational Excellence?

The Foundation has 2 major funds: a general fund and a scholarship fund.

If I Make a Donation, How Will My Donation Be Used?

If you do not specify where you would like your donation to go, it will automatically be invested in our general fund. The primary objective of the general fund is to support our Grant Program.

Grant Program

Funds raised by the Foundation go toward classroom grants.  Teachers and staff members apply annually for grant funding for innovative projects and programs in their classrooms. In many cases, these grants have broad impact across grade levels and within school buildings. The Foundation awards $6000 annually with a longer range goal of awarding $20,000.  We have funded enriching projects and programs as diverse as Solar/Wind Energy Kits, Lego League Teams (an international robotics program), AHS Link Crew (a transition program for students entering 9th grade), Marine Biology Aquaria, and Music Composition.

Additionally, the Foundation has worked with outside foundations such as the Dyson Foundation for grant funding. Arlington’s Character Education program including Diversity Training, Freshmen Transition and Character Education were supported by a Dyson Foundation grant for the past 3 years. Arlington’s Artificial Turf and Obesity Prevention grants were also funded by external donors.  A number of companies have expressed interest in supporting the schools through program grants. The Foundation will continue to foster these relationships to meet additional needs of the
school district.

Finally, Arlington’s staff recognizes the power of external grants and has done their own grant research. Often, external donors will only give to a charitable organization with official 501c3 status.  The Foundation, as a 501c3 organization, can be the conduit for these grants.

If you specify scholarship when you make a donation, your contribution will go directly toward that year’s scholarship awards.

Scholarship Program

Each year, the Foundation receives scholarship donations over $20,000.  Arlington High School seniors are eligible to apply for scholarships. Over 30 different scholarships have been established, many in memoriam or in honor of individuals. The general Arlington Scholarship fund awards multiple scholarships based on high academic achievement.
